Things to Do While Visiting the Star Valley Area:

Hike to the Intermittent Spring. Follow Hwy 89 fifteen miles south to Afton, then turn left onto 2nd Ave. The city street will head up into the mountains; travel approximately 5 miles to the parking lot. It is a short hike to the springs on a well-established trail. After, have a picnic at Canyon View Park, or grab a burger and shake at the Red Baron Drive-In.

Bring your tubes and float the Salt River. There are multiple access points within a short drive of our property. The river is slow moving and appropriate for almost all ages and abilities.

Hike the Valley View Trail in Star Valley Ranch. Head north on Hwy 89, go 3.5 miles, then turn right onto Cedar Creek. Travel 2 more miles, then turn left at the intersection onto Muddy String. Drive one mile, then turn into Star Valley Ranch. Turn left onto Vista Drive, turn left on Star Peak, then right on Green Canyon Dr. You will reach a dead end at the parking lot. Afterwards, grab an ice cream cone at Old Mill Ice Cream Shop, located on the corner of Hwy 89 and Cedar Creek Rd.

Take a bike ride or walk along the West Hills Road in Thayne. Travel 1 mile north to the end of Thayne, then turn left onto Roberts Lane. Enjoy the beauty of the Salt River, rolling farm land, and wildlife. In August, you can even pick Berries!

Spend a morning touring the historical sites and points of interest in Star Valley. Start out in Etna with the historic Baker cabin. Head to Freedom and tour Freedom Arms, a local gun manufacturing plant. Tours are offered during business hours. Next, tour the Auburn Fish Hatchery, open 8-4:30, 7 days per week.

Grab your bicycles, kayaks, canoes, fishing pole, or even your hiking shoes and spend the day at Cottonwood Lake, located 8.5 miles south of Afton.

Spend the day in Afton, WY. Visit the Call Air Museum in the Afton Civic Center. Then tour the Barn Museum, the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers Museum, and the Lander Trail Museum located close by. Head down to Main Street to see the world’s largest Elkhorn arch. Be sure to stop in at Star Valley Chocolates for a treat and to browse their wonderful souvenir’s. Then enjoy lunch at Rocky Mountain Seafood, which boasts fresh seafood flown in daily.

Rent ATV’s or Side by Sides from Alpine Adventure Rentals in Alpine, WY, jhadventure.com and spend the day exploring Greys River, featuring miles and miles of groomed trails and lakes. Be sure to pack a picnic lunch!

If you have a boat, jet skis, or even a kayak or stand-up paddle board, be sure to visit Palisades Reservoir 20 miles north of Thayne. This lake features gorgeous scenery stretching 22 miles, and there are several boat launches available depending on water levels.

Enjoy an afternoon riding bikes or atv’s in Grover Park, approximately 10 miles east of Thayne. Finish the day with a hot dog and marshmallow roast around a campfire.

Spend the morning golfing at one of Star Valley’s beautiful golf courses. Star Valley ranch has 3 courses; Cedar Creek with 18 holes, Aspen Hills with 9 holes, and the Star Valley Ranch Resort with 18 holes. You will also enjoy the Star Valley View Golf Course in Afton, a Johnny Miller course, featuring 18 holes.

Go catch a fish on the beautiful Salt River. There are 3 public access points within 6 miles of our property!

Spend an evening bowling and catching a movie at Skyview Lanes and Cinema. Fun Fact: order a delicious pizza from Anaszi Pizza Company (located onsite), and they will deliver it to you in the movie theater! See show times at skyviewlanes.com

Raft the Snake River with a commercial rafting company out of Jackson Hole, WY. Some of our favorites include Barker Ewing, Mad River, and Black Dog. If you are not seeking the adrenaline rush of the rapids, you can opt for a calm scenic float.

Visit Teton Village. Ride the Tram to the top of the mountain and enjoy a waffle at the waffle house. There are also plenty of trails for mountain biking and hiking, and several delicious restaurants to choose from.

Spend the day in Jackson Hole. Ride the lift to the top of Snow King Mountain and hike back down. Ride the Cowboy Coaster at the Snow King. Visit the Jackson Hole Historical Society Museum, stroll through the town square, and have an old west photo taken. End the night at the Jackson Hole Playhouse, or enjoy a wagon ride, dinner, and a show at the Bar T5 or Bar J Wranglers.

Hike in Grand Teton National Park. Our favorite hikes are Jenny Lake and Taggart Lake.

Visit Yellowstone Bear World near Rigby, ID. Splurge on the curator’s tour, and you will experience a close-up encounter with bears and even get to feed them! Afterwards, enjoy the petting zoo and complimentary small rides for the kids.

Spend the day in the pool at Lava Hot Springs, featuring 3 water slides and diving platforms. For a quiet experience, visit the soaking hot pools in the evening. If you are feeling brave, rent a tube and float the Portneuf River!
